Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” 9 He said, Go and tell this people:”
Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
God has always spoken to his people about spreading the Word. In the first passage Isaiah is saying he heard God speaking to him and responded; however, he wasn’t the only prophet that heeded the call. In the next passage God is again speaking to several persons. Several persons equal several personalities.
So what does this mean? Even if you’re not a fisherman you must recognize that we need to use different kinds of bait for different kinds of situations, because different types of bait are required to catch different types of fish. To someone who is filled with anguish, we might speak to them of the peace that God can bring. If we are talking with someone on his or her deathbed, we would address the subject of death and the certainty of heaven for those who put their faith in Christ. Another person might be plagued with personal guilt, so we might speak to them about God’s offer of complete forgiveness.
The move of the Spirit is always the key element, but your smile, jovial nature, compassionate touch, tough matter-of-fact style, and/or whatever is uniquely you will catch someone for the kingdom and bring them to a decision for Christ.
Father, thank you for teaching me how to adapt my personality, my life experiences, my gifts, and talents so that they might speak to another person in a positive manner. And Father, guide me in spiritually evaluating the situations of others so that I may quickly apply the truth of your Word to their cares and concerns. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
